Welcome to Craft with Kat

My name is Kat Lewis, and I’m a fiction writer and narrative designer based in South Korea.

This weekly newsletter is both a writing craft course and a blog about breaking into the publishing industry. Once a month, subscribers get access to the course content from the novel writing class I taught at the University of South Florida. These craft lessons contain the tools I use every day as a professional fiction writer and video game narrative designer.

Some of the key concepts from the course include:

  • Story Structure

  • Character Goals

  • Dialogue Writing

  • Scene Craft

  • Revision

Just like my Twitter threads, all the lessons are concrete and practical, and each lesson demonstrates how these tools could transform your writing life.

If any of my Twitter threads have been helpful to you and your writing, please consider subscribing to support me as a writer and educator.

During the other weeks of the month, this newsletter will document my journey toward publishing my debut novel. My goal is to give other early career writers real-time insight into the reality of getting a first book published.

For free, you can read content about:

  • Querying Agents

  • Submitting to Publishers

  • Tackling Imposter Syndrome

  • Writing for Video Games

New posts are published every Sunday.

Subscribe today to support the free educational content I post on Twitter and the in-depth craft lessons I publish here on Substack.
